Greenwich Village also merely known as “The Village” and more recently referred to as the West Village by some, is one of the most famous neighborhoods in New York. As we guide you through the charming,tree-lined winding streets that are atypical of most of Manhattan (and where most visitors get lost!), you will come to learn why it is called “The Village” and what has made this neighborhood a special place like no other neighborhood in America. We will take you on the trip down memory lane as no other tour guide organization can do exploring both it`s bohemian past and into the Greenwich Village of today. One of our guides was even born and raised in “The Village.” Many famous actors, writers, artists, poets etc. lived in Greenwich Village such as Edgar Allen Poe, Bob Dylan, Barbara Streisand, Bette Midler, Cary Grant, Salvador Dali, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Mark Twain, Jack Kerouac, to name a few (and some newcomers such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Anderson Cooper, Brooke Shields, Billy Joel, Julia Roberts, Marc Jacobs now call it their home –or one of their homes!). Several famous people our guides have known or met and have great stories to tell you about them. Here are a few highlights of sites that we will visit:
Where Hitchcock`s set for “Rear Window,” starring Grace Kelly was conceived
Where “Serpico” was filmed that catapulted Al Pacino to stardom
Where the TV sitcom “Friends” building is located
Where Bette Midler, Cary Grant, and Sally Kirkland lived
Where Robert DeNiro often rehearsed for his roles when he began his career
Where Woody Allen and Rodney Dangerfield got their start
Where there are famous taverns, the watering holes for literary giants such as F.Scott Fitzgerald, J.D Salinger, William Burroughs, Ernest Hemingway, etc.
Where the T.V. producer of the world-famous hit sitcom “Three’s Company” lives
Where American revolutionary Thomas Paine died
Where Greenwich Village resident Edger Allen Poe was treated for a head cold
Where Sarah Jessica Parker lives
AND MUCH, MUCH MORE…..
